{"id":187,"date":"2007-04-17T23:35:38","date_gmt":"2007-04-18T04:35:38","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/log.spendernet.com\/?p=3"},"modified":"2007-04-17T23:35:38","modified_gmt":"2007-04-18T04:35:38","slug":"punkbuster-and-battlefield-2142","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/blog.spendernet.com\/?p=187","title":{"rendered":"Punkbuster and Battlefield 2142"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">So I went to play some 2142 today.\u00a0 Finally got enough hours to get Veteran Assault so I figure I&#8217;ll jump in a game a Cerber Landing and BAM 15 minutes later have the badge.\u00a0 Got into the game with the round almost over.\u00a0 Popped in 8 kills with no deaths then round end.\u00a0 Looked at my round stats and my accuracy for the Assault Rifle is 3400%.\u00a0 OK, weird I thought but whatever.\u00a0 Next round starts\u00a0and suddenly punkbuster is bitching at me about missing packets and then I get kicked.\u00a0 \u00a0So I think, &#8220;Ok, screwy server then.&#8221;\u00a0 I move on.\u00a0 Next sever immediately I get the punkbuster crap.\u00a0 &#8220;Maybe my dsl is being screwy,&#8221; I think so I restart my modem and router.\u00a0 Back in the game get into a round near the end and manage to finish the round.\u00a0 Next round&#8230; kicked again by punkbuster!<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">And this point I shout out a loud &#8220;WTF?!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">I check EA&#8217;s Battlefield site.\u00a0 No news about it.\u00a0 I talk to Your Mom (yes your&#8217;s) and he doesn&#8217;t seem to be having a problem.\u00a0 finally I make it to punkbusters site and I see they released a new punkbuster update TODAY.\u00a0 I also see that punkbuster should update itself automatically.\u00a0 Well guess what?\u00a0 It isn&#8217;t working!\u00a0 I download their updater utility and run it.\u00a0 It gets the update and installs it.\u00a0 Great!\u00a0 Maybe now it will work.\u00a0 Join a game&#8230; same problem!<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">At this point I&#8217;m extra pissed and just decide to re-install the whole damn game.\u00a0 (Yeah I wanted the Veteran Assault pretty bad)<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">Well a good half hour to an hour later It&#8217;s re-installed and patched.\u00a0 Thankfully I remembered to save my controls.con file before doing it to save me some hassle, however a good 5-6 minutes of shader optimization quickly takes away that little victory.<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">So back in the game, but wait!\u00a0 30 seconds later it&#8217;s kick Spender time again for missing punkbuster packets!\u00a0 &#8220;Son of a Bitch!!!!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">So I retry the punkbuster update tool and restart my computer to find a new extra process running in the background.\u00a0 One Mr. &#8220;PnkBstrA.exe&#8221;.\u00a0 Note this was not running after I applied the update, but before I restarted.\u00a0 Turns out that the new version of punkbuster requires this process running in the background to work.\u00a0 Gay!<\/p>\n<p style=\"overflow: auto; width: 100%\">So I want to thank the Assholes at punkbuster for releasing a poorly executed patch to a system that does jack shit and wasting 3 hours of my time so I could get the 15 minutes of play time needed to get my damn badge.\u00a0 I also want to thank them for adding ANOTHER background process to my system.\u00a0 I just can&#8217;t get enough of those!\u00a0 Thanks a lot douche bags!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>So I went to play some 2142 today.
